The Food Divide

This article, The Food Divide, by Christopher D. Cook, published several weeks ago in the SF Bay Guardian shows the importance of Uhuru Jiko as an economic development project that aims to transform the black community by opening up a commercial kitchen that will facilitate the opening of small food businesses, nutrition, health, cooking classes and a community garden in East Oakland. The conditions in East Oakland are similar to those in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. This is why Uhuru Pies is such an important fundraiser, getting resources to fund these community-based programs.
