WHEN: Tuesday, August 27, 7:00 pm
WHERE: Awaken Cafe, 1429 Broadway (downtown)

Every fall holiday season since 1981, Uhuru Pies has been a tradition in the Bay Area that raises funds for the programs of the Uhuru Movement. Uhuru Pies is part of Black Star Industries and supports the economic programs of BSI including One Africa! One Nation! Marketplace, Uhuru Planet, Uhuru Foods & Pies, Uhuru Media and more.

Bakers, organizers, sales people and anyone who is looking for a meaningful holiday volunteer opportunity is invited to join this campaign to sell over 2,000 pies in the Bay Area this Thanksgiving and December holiday season.
Sponsor a pie tasting and set up your own personal pie seller's web page on the uhurupies website. Win others to sponsor a pie tasting. Win donations of ingredients for the pies.

Help bake, deliver and sell Uhuru Pies! Attend this meeting to learn more about how you can be part of this very exciting fundraising campaign.

Also, we will be discussing our participation in the work to build the Day in Solidarity with African People on October 13, 2013.

The Food Divide

This article, The Food Divide, by Christopher D. Cook, published several weeks ago in the SF Bay Guardian shows the importance of Uhuru Jiko as an economic development project that aims to transform the black community by opening up a commercial kitchen that will facilitate the opening of small food businesses, nutrition, health, cooking classes and a community garden in East Oakland. The conditions in East Oakland are similar to those in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. This is why Uhuru Pies is such an important fundraiser, getting resources to fund these community-based programs.
